Photo manipulation in journalism
In this example, a black student was added into a photograph in a University of Wisconsin at Madison to give the idea that the school was more diverse. Although this is absurd, it is simply an example of false advertisement and promotion for the school, like any other product being sold. This is the most common type of photo manipulation, and I certainly disagree with its practice. However, I believe a more deceiving form of photo manipulation is in news articles(particularly political ones), because it gives people a false sense of what is happening in the world rather than just what they could spend their money on. A false photo also speaks louder than false words. Words are someone's opinions and ideas while photos are meant to be the undeniable truth. People expect to see the truth, evidence of something solid and real, when they see a photo. It's very effective and dangerous to take that confidence away from people.
